WINNIFRED DEPEW, age 89, of Dandridge, TN and formerly of Knoxville, TN passed away on December 20, 2015. A loving mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Fred. E. Depew Sr.; her oldest son, Fred E. Depew Jr.; parents, Burris and Georgia Campbell; brother, Burris Campbell Jr.; stepmother, Sally Campbell; as well as several brothers and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Winnie was born in Harlan, Kentucky, raised in Cumberland, Kentucky, and received her teaching certification from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a chemical dispatcher for the Manhattan Project, which brought her and her husband, Fred, to Knoxville, where they resided for more than 60 years. They were the owners/operators of Evan's Cafeteria on the University of Tennessee Campus for 17 years, before opening Earl's Package Store on Kingston Pike.
Winnie loved her family and is survived by her son, Jeff Depew (Kristin); and grandchildren, Fred E. Depew III, Mark Depew (Claudia), Nicole Depew, and Jake Depew; as well as several great grandchildren. She also enjoyed dancing, spending time with her close friends, and was an active member of the Red Hats and Eastern Star. Following the death of her husband, Winnie moved to Dandridge to be close to her son. In her final three months she was a resident of the Jefferson County Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at 3 pm at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge with the receiving friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm prior to the service and a private graveside service on Tuesday.
