Winfred Robert ‘Bob’ McCarter, 87, passed away Friday, July 24 at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
He was the beloved husband of Mary McDougal for 63 years; loving father of Winfred Robert, Jr (Debbie); Sam (Julia); and Mary Elizabeth; big brother of Mary Alice Craig, and Charlotte Groseclose; and dear grandfather of 7: Heather, Winfred (Hayleigh), Jillian, Eve, and Benham McCarter, Hannah Borden, and Natalie Willcox; and 2 great-grandchildren: Makayla and Richard Cram, Jr.
Bob was born and raised in Sevier County, and graduated from Sevier County High School. In 1955-’56 he took part in the installation of the Distant Early Warning Line within the Arctic Circle for the Army and Western Electric-AT&T. He worked as a Supervisor for Western Electric until his retirement.
Intelligent, quick to laugh, big-hearted, and always helpful, Bob will be dearly missed by several close friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Lela Conner McCarter; brother, Ted McCarter; grandson, Samuel Borden; and son-in-law, Gary Willcox.
Military graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Zion Hill Church Cemetery, Seymour, TN with Bro. Michael Moffat and Dr. Ken Link Officiating.
