Willie D. "Billie" Lackey

WILLIE D. "BILLIE" LACKEY, age 97, of Dandridge, TN passed away Monday evening, February 23, 2009 at the Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was born September 8, 1911 in Countyline, TN, the daughter of the late Eulan and Lara Waggoner Bomar. She was a member of the Dandridge First United Methodist Church. Willie and her husband, W. H. Lackey, were owners of Lackey Concrete Company and Jefferson Block Company. They both were active in the community and were inspirational in the founding of the Dandridge Senior Citizens Center. Preceded in death by her husband, W. H. Lackey; grandsons, Sammy Jones and Jack Jones; sister, Mary Alice Ray; and brother, Elmer Bomar. Survived by daughters, Jean Jones and Sue Bird, both of Dandridge; grandchildren, Sherre DeVries, Mary Ann Gray, Carla Berg and Carl Bird, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 8, Dandridge, TN 37725. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Jay Ferguson officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and the family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
