Box 1025 Dandridge, TN 37725 Phone (865) 397-2711 Fax (865) 397-9289 OBITUARY: WILLIAM ELBERT HENDRIX, age 92 of Dandridge, TN passed away Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the Jefferson County Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was born June 7, 1939 in Cottage Grove, TN. Elbert was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he earned his BS and MS degrees in agriculture education and economics and his PhD in economics and property law from the University of Wisconsin. He was a highly acclaimed Agriculture Economist and Professor of Agriculture Economics for the most of his working career, which led him into many areas of research and study with the ERS/USDA relating to agriculture development and trade in developing nations, including 8 years in India. He was a member of many professional organizations in relation to agriculture economics and also authored more than 100 articles on the subject in many major publications. Following his retirement, he and Helen moved to Dandridge, TN where was active in the community, being a member of the Dandridge Area Senior Citizens, Dandridge Lions Club, Jefferson County Volunteer Contributors, Inc., Carson-Newman College Community Board, Shady Grove Community Club, Jefferson County Library Board and the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Buffat Hendrix. Survived by daughter, Rebecca Hedin of Silver Spring, MD; grandson, Douglas Hedin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Reverend Terry Williams and Dr. Robert McCray officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Dandridge Area Senior Citizens, 917 Elliott Ferry Road, Dandridge, TN 37725.
