WILLIAM JAY FLAHERTY, age 70 of Dandridge, TN formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Friday morning, June 15, 2018 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, U.S Army veteran having served in the Vietnam Conflict and was retired after 32 years as a Chicago Police Officer. William was a model railroad buff and enjoyed telling family and friends that he had retired to “God’s Country” in the foothills of East Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janis Oprondek Flaherty; sons, Steve (Robyn), Ken (April) and Bill Flaherty; grandsons, Will, Shane and Ryan Flaherty; brother, Jim (Diane) Flaherty; sister-in-law, Linda Flaherty and loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, Michael Flaherty. A funeral mass will be held, Tuesday, 10:30am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Patrick Resen officiating. Inurnment services with Military Honors will follow at 2:00pm at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, E. 2200 Gov. John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN.
