LAKIN, WILLIAM (Bill) – age 84, of Talbott, TN passed away Wednesday morning, April 16, 2014. Bill served in the Navy and Air Force, retiring in 1968. He then became an elementary school teacher and served as a baseball and basketball coach. Preceded in death by his wife, Edith Summey Lakin; parents, Thomas and Eunice Lakin; brother, Jack Lakin; and sisters, Brenda Wilkerson and June Anderson. Survived by his sons, Philip and Daphne Lakin, and Tommy Lakin, all of Strawberry Plains, Doug and Michelle Lakin of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chandler, Colson, and Chaney Lakin; sister, Irene Nelson; and brother, Jim Lakin. Also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and close friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. and proceed directly to the graveside at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care for their loving care of Bill over the past years, especially to Anna, Jude, and Mary.
