He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City. He was a graduate of Florence State Teacher?s College and the University of Tennessee. A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during World War II and participated in the D-Day invasion. He taught in the Biology Department at Carson-Newman College for 30 years, and after his retirement from teaching, he conducted a thriving leather and saddle business. He is survived by his wife, Anna Cloyd; son and daughter-in-law, David and Ginger Cloyd of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Andy Cutshaw of Powell, TN; grandchildren, Jenny Dearstone, Julie Dearstone, Kristy Cloyd, Jonathan Cloyd, and Will John Cloyd II; brother, Dr. Grover Cloyd of Staunton, VA; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2007 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Doug Wilder officiating.
