Wesokie, “Okie,” Slone, age 83, of Talbott, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2020. Okie was born on March the 4th, 1937, on Slone Fork in Hollybush, Kentucky. He was the 10th of 11 children born to his father, Camillus, and his mother, Laura Slone. His father died when he was 4 years old, and two years later his mother passed away. Thereafter, he was raised by his sisters and their husbands. He first lived with Alpha in Kentucky, and later Alma and Ida who brought him to the great state of Tennessee in 1950. In 1955, he went to work for “Magnavox “ in Jefferson City and worked there until he retired in 1992 as foreman, a position that he held for many years though he had little formal education. Okie loved life, his friends, his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He always had a warm smile and a kind word for everyone that he encountered.
Okie was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Geneva Gary, Sarah Short, Alpha Williams, Alma Carver, Ida Ingram, and Amy Jacobs, and his brothers, Rolland, Defawn, and Mason. He is survived by his sister Verbena Thomas, sons, Duane Slone (Gretchen), Gary Slone (Linda), Daryl Slone, and daughter Lisa Cameron(Eric); grandchildren, Laura Mize (Tim), Tyler Slone, Jordan Sykes (Kayla), Blake Sykes (Chelsea), Oakland Slone, Joseph Slone, and Estella Slone; and, great-granchildren, Brilee Hayes, Sayde Sykes, Kinsley Sykes, and William Sykes.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 6, 2020, at True Life Church, 860 Highway 11E, Jefferson City, Tennessee, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with funeral services following at 7 p.m., Pastor Jimmy Inman officiating. Due to the current circumstances related to COVID19, social distancing measures and other protective measures will be in place.
