William Carlo Brittain “Bud” Watkins, Jr., age 94 of Talbott, TN, passed away at his home on September 25th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 16th, 1926 at his family home and Bud lived his entire life in Jefferson County. He was an active and faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He loved God and his church with all his heart. He represented the 9th District for 24 years on the Jefferson County Court. He worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 21 years and he was a lifelong farmer. He had many tractors and he was the happiest when he was on one of them or with his family. Since June 7th, 2020, he and Betty have hosted Sunday School on their front porch due to the closure of their church. Bud enjoyed hiking in the mountains and he and Betty hiked Mt. LeConte many times over the years. Bud and Betty made many memories while camping with family & friends.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Britt and Wilma Watkins; his beloved Uncle Reese; his loving sisters, Nannie B. Cox and Agnes Farrar; several special nieces and nephews and countless friends. He is survived by the love of his life for 70 years, Betty Sue Silver Watkins. Also surviving are his children, Dr. Connie W. Bales, Larry and wife Lois, Chip and wife Annie; grandchildren, Audrey Britton, Britt Bales, Isaac, Reece, Carrie and Roger Watkins; great-grandchildren Liam and Ada Britton. Special appreciation to family friend, Wilma Bible, special nephew, John Cox; as well as other loved nieces and nephews.
The family has been very blessed by the services of Smoky Mountain Hospice, Suncrest Home Health and Home Instead.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Talbott. Graveside interment service will follow in the church cemetery. Receiving of friends will be from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 28 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Larry Watkins, Chip Watkins, Britt Bales, Isaac Watkins, Reece Watkins and Roger Watkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Armand Ballinger, Dennis Burchell, Hoover Minton, Randy Quarles, Charlie Simpson, Tom Solomon, John Webb and the rest of the McDonalds breakfast crew.
