Vivian Garland, born October 27, 1921 went to meet her husband George on June 24, 2019 after a long illness. She passed away peacefully leaving 3 children behind; Shirley Sammons, George Garland, Jr and Francis Pinson and husband Perry, 9 grandchildren, Sherry Thomas, Mark Sammons, Lisa Sparks, Felicia Garland, Monique Neubecker who is waiting to greet her in Heaven, George William Garland, Lori Watson, James Pinson and Billy Pinson, 9 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-great-grandchildren. Born in Erwin, TN she attended school thru the 10th grade when she quit and worked at Blue Ridge Pottery until she met and married George. After having 3children and George arriving back from WWII they moved to West Virginia where she went back to high school and was voted class president both years by her fellow classmates. Her son George graduated from elementary school the same week she graduated from high school. She proceeded to college where she received a B.S. degree from the University of Charleston. She later proceeded into Social Work where she was appointed by Gov. Jay Rockefeller to supervise a new program W.I.N. program that helped mothers to receive an education and a job. She supervised 5 counties and she was in the Who’s Who of American Women. After 26 years as an administrator in the Department of Welfare she and George retired and moved to White Pine, TN where they bought a large farm. George ran the farm and she worked as a director for Mary Kay. She enjoyed her friends and family in TN until she went to meet her heavenly father along with her parents, brothers, sister and granddaughter. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 10-11:00am with funeral services to follow at 11:00am at First Baptist Church in White Pine, with Rev. Brian Osborne officiating. Graveside Interment will be at 2:30pm in Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin TN.
