VIRGINIA WINGO went to be with the Lord on February 4, 2014 at the age of 101. She was a dedicated Christian and a retired Baptist missionary with 35 years of service in Italy.
She was a graduate of Louisiana College in Pineville with a Doctorate of Divinity degree , and attended LSU. Prior to serving in Italy, she taught at Carver’s School of Mission for 3 years, which was a part of Baptist Seminary in Louisvile, KY. She also served as statewide secretary of WMU Young People’s Association. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Spurgeon Wingo; and her brother, Spurgeon M. Wingo and wife, Elizabeth.
She is survived by Peggy McNish, devoted friend of 51 years, whom Virginia thought of as a daughter; niece, Virginia W. Rester; nephew, Charles S. Wingo; great-nephew, Thomas S. Wingo; and great-niece, Linnea Wingo. Special thanks to Tennova Home Health nurses, Dr. Ward Phillips and staff, and to the loving and devoted resident caregivers. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at Farrar Funeral Home. Receiving of friends will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning at Westview Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service.
