VIRGINIA HUDSON QUARLES, of Jefferson City, TN, also known as Jenny or “Mammaw” was received into the presence of God on June 1, 2015 after a short stay at Life Care Center of Jefferson City. Born in the Flat Gap Community on April 16, 1929, Jenny was the daughter of the late K. P. and Mary Hudson. Her brothers, Floyd, James and John, and sister, Dorothy preceded her in death. Jenny is survived by her baby sister, Betty and her husband, Bill Kinnick. She held extended family members close to her heart and loved them all as she loved her own. Jenny and her late husband, Dene Quarles, celebrated 61 years together planting gardens, raising daughters Jenny Lynn Hustad (Perry) and Mary Ellen Darby (Dewayne); and enjoying grandchildren, Phil (Alicia) and Jon (Amanda) Hustad, Laura (Bryan) Purdom, Julia (Andy) Lowe, and Will (Sarah) Darby. Her great delight in the past several years has been her great-grandchildren, Nate Hustad, Lilly Kate and Julia Ann Purdom, and Ellie and Lucy Lowe. She loved the patter of their little feet and the greetings she received from them as well. She taught Jenny Lynn and Mary Ellen how to iron creases in khaki pants, leave a kitchen sparkling clean after dinner, plant and cultivate vegetables in a garden and make a baby giggle. She showed them how to live generously with family and neighbors and to always have room at the kitchen table for one more. Jenny was courageous, strong and determined. She taught her daughters how to grow old graciously and to die with dignity, joy and faith. Jenny was a lifetime member of George Street United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities. Her deep and abiding faith in God gave her hope for the future, strength for the journey and peace in the moment. Trusting in a God that carried her daily, she had complete confidence that her Lord and Savior would remain faithful through eternity. Her family would like to acknowledge the staff of Life Care of Jefferson City and Amedysis Hospice for their gift of care and devotion to her and the kindness shown to her family during her stay. They would also like to thank the many loving family and friends who have held them in their prayers, comforted them in their embrace, and given them the gift of their time. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Farrar Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather at 10:15 a.m. Friday morning at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 10:30 a.m. graveside service with the Rev. Steve Burkhart officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to George Street United Methodist Church, 1340 George Street, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
