Virgie Hill Bacon

VIRGIE HILL BACON, age 98, of Knoxville, TN passed away on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Dandridge, TN, she was a graduate of Maury High School, attended Tusculum College, and graduated from Carson Newman College and Chapman University in Orange, CA. She taught school for 18 years in Jefferson County. After her marriage, she taught school and was an assistant principal in California for 25 years. She was an excellent teacher, winning several awards. She was a member of The First Congregational Church in Buena Park, California for 50 years. After the death of her husband, she returned to live in Knoxville and transferred her membership to Eastminster Presbyterian Church. She was a life member of Buena Park Historical Society, member of the Orange County Orchid Society, member of the California Retired Teachers Association, and a member of The Friends of the Fullerton, California Arboretum. Preceded in death by her husband, James E. Bacon of Fullerton, California; parents, John and Malinda Moore Hill of Dandridge and White Pine, TN; brothers, Joe Hill, T. M. Hill and George M. Hill; sister, Lois Hill. She is survived by sister, Lydia Elizabeth Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Aileen Hill of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Hedwig Hill of Stuttgart, Germany; nephews, George, Dr. Stephen, Phillip, Dr. Joe, John R. and James B. Hill; nieces, Betty Hill Hice and Linda Hill Pittman. The family is thankful for the tender and loving care provided by the Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Reverend David Maude officiating. Interment to follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the service at the funeral home.
