VIOLA McKAY MASON, age 88, of the Karns Community of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022. Viola was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who loved spending time with family, friends and the many friends with whom she worked. Viola grew up in Dandridge, TN and attended Maury High School. After high school she married Perry Mason also of Dandridge. Throughout their marriage, Viola and Perry moved a number of times including to Tulsa, OK and Tupelo, MS eventually returning to Tennessee in Lenoir City. With each move, Viola found new career opportunities and made new lifelong friends. Over the years, she worked for Carson Newman College, Archer’s Air Conditioning, in real estate in Tupelo and Tulsa, and most recently for Cogdill Dodge, from where she retired. When not at work, Viola enjoyed time with family, especially the holidays, watching ballgames, especially Volunteer football, and could always be found with a cup of coffee and a book in her hand. She enjoyed singing in the choir at church and was devoted to and involved with the Sunday School classes of which she was member. She liked to travel and loved spending time at the beach. Her family has many wonderful memories of being with her sharing love and laugher.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Perry H. Mason, Jr., her parents, Charles and Eunice McKay and sisters Betty Jo Rutherford and Charlotte Ann McKay. She is survived by sons Perry H. “Chuck” Mason, III (Pam) and Terry C. Mason (Karen) as well as grandchildren Hannah Goodman (Colby) and Brad Mason. Viola is also survived by her sister Sue McFalls and her husband Jim of Knoxville as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service to honor Viola at 2 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Dandridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Viola’s request was that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge, TN will be in charge of arrangements.
