Velma Samples

VELMA SAMPLES - 94, of White Pine passed away January 22, 2023, at home peacefully with her family at her side. Velma was one of five children; Gaveta Chaney, Eldridge Denton, Murphy Denton, and Floyd Denton, born to the late Oscar and Josie Montana Denton. Velma had other close family members to include nieces and nephew; Sue Layman, Duane Denton, Evelyn Rines, and Sherry Cox. Velma helped her late husband, Joe Samples, with building a water well drilling business which was to provide people with one of God’s most precious resources - water. Before growing a business and family, Joe and Velma met while Joe was drilling a water well in Sevier County for Velma’s family. Joe and Velma’s union soon blossomed into a legacy to last for generations. They established their water well business, Joe Samples Well Drilling, in 1954. Survived and grieving their loss is daughter, Pat Lane and Doug; son, Rickey Samples and Debbie; grandsons, Brian and Dara Lane, Jared and Summer Lane, and Darin and Hannah Lane. Velma’s legacy continued not only through her grandchildren, but continued with seven great-grandchildren; Caleb, Hudson, Marley Kate, Baylor, Sawyer, Ella Rae, and Fallon. Velma lived for her family, enjoying family gatherings and meals together. Velma’s family would like to extend special thanks to Barbara Baker, Frankie Samples, and Clara Owens who spent countless hours being at her side - we will forever be grateful for those special ladies. Receiving of friends and funeral service will be held at Leadvale Baptist Church, Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with service at 7:00 pm. Special nephew, Rev. Mike Grebenik of Colorado Springs, CO, Rev. Charlie Harkleroad, and Rev. Brandon Cate will be officiating. Graveside Internment will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Dandridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leadvale Baptist Church Building Fund, in care of: Leadvale Baptist Church, 874 Leadvale Church Road, White Pine, TN 37890. Pallbearers are Brian, Jared, Darin, Caleb, Hudson, Baylor, and Sawyer Lane, Jason Barnard, and Harry Burns. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine, 865-674-2441.
