TOM BURNETT CARTER, affectionately called ?Grandy? by his family, was a man of deep faith and had a great attitude about life. Diagnosed with cancer one year ago he showed no fear of death and stated to his doctor, ?we have to die of something and I know where I?ll be going?. Tom joined his beloved Savior at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2012, just three weeks short of his 88th birthday, being born on February 23, 1924. Tom was proud of his service to his country, as he served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. He was most proud of his service as a deacon of First Baptist Church, White Pine, TN, where he was a member since 1959 and a deacon since 1961.Preceded in death by his parents, Robert H.H. (Bee) Carter and Linda (Lindy) Potts Carter; sister, Edna (Carter) Noe; niece and nephew, Linda Noe, Jerry Noe; and son-in-law, Charles Woods. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Clelda (Conway) Carter; children, Cathy Carter Woods, Tom and wife, Barbara Carter, Eli and Karen Carter Matijevich; grandchildren, Brent and Brianne (Woods) Taylor, Brad Woods, Lauren Matijevich and Nick Matijevich; great-grandchildren; Logan Taylor, Elyse Taylor and many special family members and friends. Tom?s integrity has left a legacy for all who knew and loved him. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 4, 2012, 5:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of White Pine, where the family will receive friends 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. prior to services. Interment graveside services Sunday, February 5, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Swannsylvania Baptist Church Cemetery.
