Thomas G. “Tom” Robeson, age 84, of Jefferson City, TN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Life Care Center, Jefferson City with his family by his side. A long-time dairy farmer in Jefferson County, he graduated from Jefferson City High School and joined his father as partner on their Grade A Holstein dairy and crop farm. He commercially hauled cattle, hay, and tobacco over the years. He retired from dairy farming in 1996 but continued to raise beef cattle and hay. Tom served several terms as an elected committeeman for the USDA ASCS (now Farm Service Agency) in Jefferson County, and as a member of the Jefferson Farmers Cooperative Board of Directors for many terms. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City for over 60 years and more recently a member of the congregation of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. Tom was a loving father, grandfather, good friend, and a neighbor to all and a loyal Tennessee Vols Fan. He was a big man in stature, but possessed a tender heart and a smile for all. He was the youngest son of the late Robert H. and Nettie Murph Robeson. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Hatmaker Robeson; and brother, Lewis M. Robeson. He is survived by daughter, Diane R. Grantham and grandson, Thomas Craig (TC) Grantham, both of Jefferson City, TN; brother, Delwin (Drama) Robeson of Powell, TN; step-grandsons, Benjamin and Kevin Grantham of Raleigh, NC; future granddaughter-in-law, Annie Kimbrough; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his last surviving Robeson cousin, R.E. Robeson of Morristown, TN. Longtime friends and neighbors include Blair Hill, Ronnie Colley, Charles and George Wright, Wayne Love, Chris Fain, Adam Newman, Jake Sartain, and long-time farmhand, Thomas Knight. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the loving and caring staff, along with his many resident friends, at Life Care Center of Jefferson City over the past 11 months, and appreciation to his long-time medical doctor and family friend, Dr. Dewayne Darby and his staff. Funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Farrar Funeral Home with Dr. Gene Wilder officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2014 at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be T.C. Grantham, Ben Grantham, Kevin Grantham, Barry Denton, Adam Newman, Chris Fain, James McKee, and Thomas Knight. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, 1610 Russell Ave., Jefferson City, TN 37760, or a charitable organization of your choice.
