THELMA LEONARD FRENCH, age 86, of New Market, TN (Piedmont community) passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at her home following an extended illness. She was a life long resident of the Piedmont community, where she was a member of the Piedmont Baptist Church and worked alongside her husband operating French's Market for over 34 years. Thelma enjoyed working with crafts and was a charter member of the Jefferson Counts Crafts Association. Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Herbert "Baby Ray" French; parents, William and Martha (Morrisett) Leonard; brother, Claude Leonard. She is survived by daughter, Linda (Mike) Gray; grandchildren, Melody (Ryan) Horvath and Curtis Hickman; great-granddaughter, Grace Lynn Horvath, all of New Market; sister, Helen Turner of Dandridge, Ruby (Bill) Brogan of Friendsville; brother, Clifford (Frances) Leonard of Dandridge, James (Elizabeth) Leonard of Ringold, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Bob Neal officiating. Interment graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Piedmont Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the service.
