Shirley H. Manley,age 94 of New Market, Tennessee passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at Life Care Center of Jefferson City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. Shirley was the oldest living member of the UMW. While health permitted, Shirley was a dedicated, active church member and served in many capacities and offices, including the Board of Trustees. She was the first woman to serve as chairperson of the Administrative Board. She was also a long time member of the New Market Homemakers Club, the local WCTU, League of Women Voters and various other organizations. Preceded in death by her husband, Rolla R. Manley; and brothers, Earl and Bob Horner. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth R. and Grace M. Manley of New Market, and R. Gale and Val C. Manley of Kingsport; one brother and sister-in-law, Ober and Jessie Horner of Knoxville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Neil and Gladys Manley of New Market; 4 grandchildren and spouses, Stephen Manley of New Market, Todd and Liz Manley of New Market, Valena and James Hoy of Norfold, Virginia and Michael and Holly Manley of Clarksville; 4 great grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace, Stephanie, MacKenzie and Reed Manley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2002 at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Stuart Albee, Valena Manley Hoy and James B. Hoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Barker-Forum Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m. Thursday prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund in Jefferson City, TN Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, TN.
