Sgt. Major U. S. Army Ret. Billy M. "Bill" Morie

Sgt. Major U. S. Army Ret. Billy M. “Bill” Morie passed away Friday, May 01, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was of the Methodist faith. Bill was born in Dandridge, TN on May 1, 1934 and had turned 86 shortly before his passing. He joined the United States Army at the young age of 17 where he spent 27 years serving his country. He was awarded numerous medals that included the Korean Service and United Nations Service Medals, the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service and the Vietnam Campaign Medals. He also received the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorius Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. Other awards included seven overseas bars, a U. S. Army Gold Recruiter Badge and a Good Conduct Award. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bill was married to the former Dorothy Chesteen on November 9, 1954 and they spent 65 loving years together. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Griffin; his father Arthur Morie; two brothers, Ralph Morie and G. B. Morie; and a sister, Johnie Miller; as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, E. C. and Emma Chesteen. Along with his wife, Dorothy (Dot), he leaves his three sons, Mike (Lisa) Morie, Tony (Lois) Morie, and Billy (Gina) Morie. Also mourning his passing are his six granddaughters, Misty Hamilton, Heather Morie, Lindsay Cline, Lauren Morie, Beth Morie and Brooke Morie; his grandsons are Jarrett Morie and Elliott Morie; and step-grandson, Michael Buchanan; six great-grandchildren are Kynlee Jo Thacker, Lyla B. Jones, Tyler Morie, Brooklyn Ealy, Tatum Kyle, and Chandler Shaw. A special thanks goes to Amedisys Hospice with nurse Ashlee; and special friends include Larry Beeler and Mr. and Mr. Ken (Kat) Collins. Our family is forever grateful for everyone who has shown us much love and kindness during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warriors.org.
