Sarah ?Eloise? Watkins Smith, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 17, 2010 in Boise, Idaho. She was a resident of Lake Charles, LA. for over 70 years. Eloise was born Nov. 19, 1922 in Dallas, TX to Hugh Bell McBurney and Ima Swann McBurney. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry E. Watkins, Sr. and George Smith; daughter, Dora Gail Watkins; son, William R. Watkins; sister, Kathleen Assunto; and parents, H.B. and Ima Swann McBurney. Eloise loved making her home a beautiful place to serve her guest with special southern hospitality. She loved music and sang with her family along with playing the piano. She wrote several choruses and loved to share them with family and friends. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren cherish the fond memories of delicious pecan pralines, yummy pies, fun ?surprise? packages from Maw Maw and fun times playing games like ?Chicken Foot? and ?Scrabble?. She crocheted many granny-square afghans for family and friends as well as Care Center residents. She loved her yard work even though she moved the plants just as much as she rearranged the furniture in her home. Eloise worked for the phone company several years. She was Maw Maw to many children as she opened a child care facility in Moss Bluff. She also received training from a couple of doctors as their assistant in medical procedures. She delighted in working for the Junior League ?Nearly New Shop? as manager until her retirement. Eloise is survived by her son, Henry E. Watkins, Jr. and his wife Kaye of Moss Bluff, LA.; daughter, Donna Everhart and her husband Gary of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Ima Jean Authement of Lake Charles, LA., Harriet Bell Simpson of Elk City, OK., and Bobbie Sue Smith of Olathe, KS.; and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Her favorite song, ?Great Is Thy Faithfulness? proved true for her through life. Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Talbott, TN. Her family and friends will celebrate her home going with a Memorial Service Saturday, 2:00 p.m., July 31, 2010 from the First Nazarene Church of Lake Charles, LA.
