Samuel Z Haynes Sr

Samuel Zion Haynes, Sr. aged 72, of White Pine passed away on May 8, 2023 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare. He has escaped the confines of a weakened heart and body, leaving a loving family and many friends to grieve him. Sam was born to James Eugene and Alice Pauline (Cress) Haynes in Pennington Gap, Virginia the third of six children. He was a long-time employee of American Enka, BASF, and Lenzing Fibers. Sam was a quiet, gentle giant, a hard worker, and a great Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and a wonderful brother, uncle and great-uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved Uncle Oscar Cress of Ohio, cherished nephew Ashley D Anderson of White Pine and his dear brothers James E. Haynes, Jr., Michael D. Haynes, and John A. Haynes of Pennington Gap, Virginia. Sam is survived by his wife, Emma Jean (Sturgill) Haynes, his step-daughter Mary Quillen Sample of Dryden, Virginia, his daughter Cathy Haynes Sanders (Ken) and son JR Haynes (Misty) of White Pine, his adored grandchildren Nancy J Anderson of Indiana, Morgan Haynes, Layla Haynes, Steve Robert Blanchett II, and Elizabeth Blanchett along with his great-grandsons Jason Anderson and Xavier Sieg. Also grieving are sisters Janet Morgan (Mike) and Marsha Matthews, sisters-in-law Jane Haynes, Abbie Haynes, and Jackie Haynes of Pennington Gap and numerous nieces and nephews who were loved by their Uncle Sam. The family will gather to receive friends at Farrar Funeral Home on Tuesday May 16 from 5-7 pm. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, 1:00pm at Leeman Field in Pennington Gap, VA. Family and friends will gather there at 1:00pm for food and remembrance.
