Ruth Hickman

RUTH W. HICKMAN, age 97, slipped quietly into the arms of her Savior on Thursday, September 18, 2008, surrounded by her family, in Folsom, CA, where she had resided for the past 6 years. Ruth was born December 15, 1910 in New Market, TN, the oldest child of Press Whillock and Emma Hodge Whillock. She was married to her loving husband of 61 years, Roy Hickman, who preceded her in death. She worked in the textile industry in Knoxville for many years and loved spending time with her family and friends. At the age of 92 she decided to move to California to be closer to her son and family. Ruth was loved by her many friends and family. She enjoyed sewing and was always ready to lend a hand when someone needed an expert seamstress. She also took great pleasure in working in her yard and telling stories of her life. She was "green" before the world caught on and never wasted anything. In Knoxville, she and Roy were long-time members of Bell Avenue Baptist Church (now Chilhowee). She was a sweet and gentle spirit who will always remain in our hearts. She was the loving mother of Jerry Hickman of Rancho Murieta, CA; devoted grandmother of Mark Hickman of Bixby, OK and Cyndee Pierson of El Dorado Hills, CA; adored great grandmother to Sam, Chad and Ilyse Pierson of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Taylor Hickman of Bixby, OK; loved sister of Edith Dean of Jefferson City, TN and brother, Jack Whillock of Chattanooga, TN; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Hascol Whillock, Frank Whillock, and Paul Whillock. Her California family would like to thank her Tennessee family who always gave her so much love and support. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life for Ruth on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, TN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Beech Springs Cemetery.
