Mrs. Ruby Kivett Ashley, age 87, of New Market, TN, passed beyond this life into newness with her Savior on Thursday, May, 18th, 2017. Ruby's passing came peacefully and suddenly while in Atlanta. Ruby was the daughter of the late Dessie Capps Kivett and Henderson Kivett, of New Market. She was a graduate of New Market High School, Carson Newman University with a Bachelors in Education, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters in Education. With a deep love for children and teaching, she honored her degrees and her community by serving as a teacher in both the local school system and home bound special education. Ruby was lovingly known by most as "Nana". She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and neighbor that delighted in sharing her talents of knitting and cooking with all. Nana loved the Lord, her family, friends and was a avid sports fan and loved the Lady Vols.. Nana's favorite Bible verse that guided her daily walk was John 3:16 "For God so LOVED the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life…." Ruby is survived by her three daughters, Jan Yanes (Armando) of Atlanta, Georgia, Ann Gust (Jim) of Salt Lake City,Utah, Lynn Killins (Daniel) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and four beloved grandchildren: Tyler (and Jasmine) Gust of Salt Lake City, Ericha Richards of Los Angeles, and Caroline and Collin Killins of Knoxville. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Ward M. Ashley, and infant daughter, Susan.
A celebration of life will be held at Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, Tennessee Thursday, May 25, 5-7 p.m., with a service at 7pm. Rev. Danny George officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to a 11:00am graveside interment service at New Market Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Ruby's name to the Pat Summit Foundation, 520 W. Summit Hill Drive, Suite 1101, Knoxville, TN 37902.
