He was a member of Indian Ridge Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and received a purple heart and four bronze stars. He retired from U.S. Steel after 36 years of service. Preceded in death by parents, Porter and Roberta Smith; brothers, Howard, Harvey, Hobert; sisters, Esta Mae Sartain, Laura Smith, and Iola Smith; Granddaughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Smith. Survivors, wife of 56 years, Martha; son and daughter-in-law, Rodger and Wanda Smith of Blaine; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Danny McClain of Knoxville; sister, Edith Hopkins of Talbott; sister-in-law Jewel Smith of White Pine; grandchildren, Kent and Melissa Smith of Blaine, Trent and LaDonna Smith of Talbott, Jason Smith of Seymour, April and Bryan Hall of Blaine, Heather and Josh Henderlight of Franklin, TN, Brandon McClain of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Derek, Lenee, and Zeek Smith of Seymour; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at Indian Ridge Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Oliver and Reverend Steve Hill officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday November 9, 2004 at the funeral home. The body will be moved to the church one hour before service. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
