ROY MARSHALL RANKIN, age 92, the last living child of Frank Walter and Lula Belle Sharp Rankin of White Pine, TN, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at his home in White Pine. Mr. Rankin was born July 15, 1917 in White Pine. He served in the old Army Air Corps and later in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre on Guam during the final year of World War II. Roy was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, where he served as an active elder. He has been an elder in the Presbyterian Church for more than fifty years. Preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and five brothers; and by his son, Don Marshall Rankin; and two grandchildren, Rebecca and Donna Rankin. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marguerite Justus Rankin; children, Marilyn Rankin Clark and husband Mark, of Arbovale, WV, Nancy Rankin Smith and husband Richard, of Lexington, KY, Carol Jean Rankin of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Marianne Rankin of Knoxville; and six grandchildren and one great-grandson. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church of Morristown. At the family?s request, there will be a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the building fund of First Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Main Street, Morristown, TN.
