Roland Joseph “Joe” Lavelle, 80, of Dandridge, TN passed away Thursday, June 25, from an extended illness. Born in Miami, FL on January 16, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Isabel Lavelle of Miami, FL and brother Jack Lavelle of Lighthouse Point, FL.
Joe was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves from 1957 to 1965. At the University of Miami, Joe was an engineering student and a member of the Leadership Honorary Society Omicion Delta Kappa. He was also the Business Manager of the Miami Engineer Magazine and a member of the Catholic Newman Club.
Joe married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Josephine (Betty Jo) Pratt on June 10, 1961 at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Miami, FL.
On June 12, 1961, Joe received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. He then began his career at Western Electric Co. in Burlington, NC. Later in Princeton, NJ at the Western Electric facility, he received his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University of Bethlehem, PA.
In 1966, Joe, Betty Jo, their son Joseph and daughter, Caroline moved back to Florida. In 1981, returning to the University of Miami, Joe received a Master’s Degree in Accounting. After receiving his certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Joe opened his CPA practice in Sunrise, FL.
In 1999, Joe and Betty Jo moved to Dandridge, TN where he continued his CPA practice until retiring in 2011.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth P. Lavelle, son, Joseph (Susan) Lavelle of Lafayette, CO, daughter, Caroline (Tony) Goins of Dandridge, TN, brother, Patrick Lavelle of Wellington, FL and 6 grandchildren, Sarah Goins, Anthony Goins, and Robert Goins and Isabella Lavelle, Maddy Lavelle and Murphy Lavelle.
A special thanks to the staff of Avalon Hospice, Jefferson Family Physicians and the Serenity House for the loving care of Joe during his illness.
A Funeral Mass and Inurnmet Service will be held at 11:00am on July 10, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jefferson City, TN due to the Covid-19 Mask are required.
