Roberta Gilkerson Hargrave

ROBERTA GILKERSON HARGRAVE, age 98, of Jefferson City, TN passed away at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Life Care of Jefferson City. She was born August 31, 1918 in Mapleton, IA to Robert and Blanche McGleerey Gilkerson. She attended Mapleton schools through 10th grade and graduated from Denison (IA) High School in 1935. She was married to Marshall E. Hargrave of Clinton, MO on October 11, 1941 in Wichita, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Marsha E. Hargrave; her parents; and a brother, Willard (Bill) Gilkerson. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Barron) Lee of Dallas, NC; granddaughter, Lauren (Mark) Dixon of Gastonia, NC; grandson, Whitney Lee of Jefferson City, TN; great-granddaughters, Anna Grace and Ansley Kate Dixon of Gastonia, NC; sister, Elaine Chamberlain of Mapleton, IA. She was church secretary of First Baptist Church, Boone, NC for 8 years and at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, TN for 12 years. After retiring from First Baptist Church, she was part-time Warrantee Clerk in the service department of Tarr Chevrolet in Jefferson City, TN for 8 years. She became a member of First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, TN in 1971 and was a member of Les Amies Club of Carson-Newman University for many years. Her interests included sewing, yard and garden work, and various church activities; particularly visiting those confined to home and rest homes. Family and friends will gather at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a Committal Service. A service of Worship and Celebration of Life will be at Farrar Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 with Dr. Gene Wilder and Rev. Barron Lee officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers wither quickly, but a contribution to Appalachian Outreach, 109 W.
