JEFFERSON CITY, TN 37760 PHONE 865-475-3892 FAX 865-475-9916 OBITUARY: REBECCA (BECKY) JANE CONNELLY SWANN passed away on March 8, 2008 and was fortunate to live in her lifelong home in Jefferson City from 1918 until 2004. Becky was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where her great-great-grandfather, James McCampbell Ashemore, was one of the organizers of then Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church. Having attended Carson-Newman College, Becky was an employee of Farris Motor Company, loved her years as a homemaker, mother, and later was employed by Dr. Stephen Bencho. She enjoyed membership in several bridge and duplicate clubs, loved to travel, was a charter member of the Jefferson City Garden Club and, with her husband and others, helped establish The Teen Center at the old Upper Elementary School where, on Friday nights, youth from the area would gather for games, fellowship, and dancing. Sports became an early childhood interest and continued throughout her life ? first as she played basketball for Jefferson City High School (1933-1937); and later as she attended Carson-Newman football games, home and away during the 20?s through the 60?s; attended University of Tennessee football and basketball games, and was especially a devoted Lady Vol fan. Her love of animals extended into later years with pet companion, ?Tipper Gore?. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edward and Bonnie Forshee Connelly; husband of 46 years, William James (Bill) Swann; special cousin, Frances Blackburn Davis; friends, Jean McCown Dannenhold and Nell Bennett James. Becky was ?Mom? to Susan Swann Howell (Larry), formerly of Jefferson City, now Chicago, Illinois; ?Grandmother? to Jonathan William Howell (Meredith), Chicago; ?GG? to her pride and joy, great-grandson, Harrison William Howell, Chicago; godmother to Kathy Dannenhold, Nashville; cousin to Dr. John Zirkle (Eva) of Jefferson City, Harold (P.K.) Snellen of Gainesville, Florida; aunt to David James (Jean) of Hixson and Chris James (Joyce) of Etowah. Becky?s family commends the staffs of Dr. John Zirkle, Chandler House Assisted Living, Jefferson County Nursing Home and Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice Care for their boundless loving care and support. A memorial service will be held on saturday, May 17, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City, with a reception of celebration to follow in the church's fellowship hall.
