Raymond Boyd Jr., of Jefferson City, TN, passed away on Tuesday August 29, 2023, at the age of 86 at the Signature Lifestyles Assisted Living Facilities where he was a resident. Raymond was a native of McCarr, Kentucky where he was born and raised and his family then later moved to Butler, Tenn. Raymond was born at his childhood home located on Boardfork in McCarr, Kentucky on October 26, 1936. Raymond was the Third child of the late Raymond Sr. and Etta “Norman” Boyd. He was a retired coalminer and member of the UMWA local 1440 out of Matewan, West Virginia and drove a school bus in the Blackberry/Belfry area for Pike County Board of Education in Pike County Kentucky for many years. He was a member of Enon United Baptist Church at Blackberry City, West Virginia for many years. After moving to Butler, TN he attended Fish Springs Baptist Church.
Raymond is preceded in death by his wife Betty Gail “Hatfield” Boyd whom he married in 1954, a son Rodney Darrell Boyd, two granddaughters Samantha Ann Sanson and Shanna Denise Moore, daughter-in-law Tammy Boyd, three brothers Eugene, Harold, and Ronald Boyd, a sister Helen Hayden, and his father & mother-in-law: Raynie W. & Myrtle “Starr” Hatfield. Survivors include his children Vanessa Kay Moore (Curtis), Raymond Wilson Boyd, Ronald Jeffery Boyd (Dawn), Johnna Gail Curry, Myrtle Jean Rhodes (Wesley), David Ray Boyd. 17 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and many more family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2023 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, TN. with the funeral service on Saturday, September 2. 2023 at 11 a.m. at Farrar’s Chapel with Pastor Chris Moore officiating, and burial will follow the service at 2:30 p.m. at Butler Memorial Cemetery in Butler, Tn. approximately 2 hours from Dandridge. Pallbearers include Derek Moore, Barry Moore, Joseph Boyd, Colton Boyd, Brandon Hager, Petie Church, Casey Whetstone, and Joseph Zeitoun.
