EVANS, age 90, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown, TN. He was born on February 7, 1914 to the late Walter and Curly Evans, and was raised in the Swannsylvania community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Geneva Howell Evans; sons, Michael, Frank and Calvin Evans; daughter, Carolyn; grandchildren, Mattie, Scottie and Phyllis; sisters Mary Branner, Lilly Mae Owens, Virginia Curberson; and brothers, Walter Evans, Jr., and Herman Hicks. He leaves to cherish his memory his companion for over 50 years, Miss Jessie Mae Johnson; children, Pete (Becky) Evans, Jacqueline Evans, Ina Mae Henry, Patrick Carr; and of P.J.?s eight children, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild was born; sisters, Melmer Ray and Eleanor Mattison; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends and a devoted daughter-in-law, Evelyn Evans. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church with Reverend Josephine Byson and Reverend Rosie Curberson. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge.
