OBITUARY:
NORMAN G. CARMEL, age 80 of Dandridge, TN passed away Saturday, August 14, 2004 at his home. He was born May 21, 1924 in Dartmouth, Mass, the son of the late Gilbert and Eva Boucher Carmel and spent his early years of growing up in Dartmouth and New Bedford, Mass. Norman became a Seaman and developed a love for the water at an early age by working on the fishing boats as a young boy. He later joined the Merchant Marines, where he served as Lieutenant and Navigator and Safety Officer during World War II and was bestowed many awards for his service. Following his service to his country, Norman was determined to educate himself by attending many schools and receiving educational certificates for his accomplishments and one being Pratt Whitny Aircraft School of Harford, CT, where he worked for over 40 years as an Analytical Engineer. After retiring to Tennessee he enjoyed meeting new people, finding a great church in the First Baptist Church of Dandridge, where he became a member and dearly loved his church family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Carmel of Dandridge; son, Guy Carmel; daughter-in-law, Nikki Martin; grandchildren, Abigail Carmel and Argos Carmel, all of Old Town, Maine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Dandridge with Dr. Robert McCray officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dandridge.
