Norma Dell Garver, age 93, of Kodak, TN finished her earthly race on March 2, 2025 at the Life Care Center in Morgan County after a long and well fought battle with Alzheimer’s. Norma was born on November 16, 1931, in Dallas, Texas and was the eldest of five children. She moved to Washington DC at the age of 12 but cherished her Texan roots and spent many summer in Texas with her extended family. No matter where she lived, she considered herself a proud Texan.
Norma met and soon after wed, Fred Denton of Kodak, TN and they had three children. During their marriage they lived in California, Maryland, Indiana and finally Tennessee, when Fred returned home to care for his parents. Norma admired her in-laws meek and gentle spirit and desired it for herself, so in 1957 she made her choice to serve the Lord. She very much loved the fellowship, saints, and servants of God. She married her second husband in 1977, a retired TN State trooper named, Lloyd Greene. For a time, they ran Concord Boat Dock before buying their home on Thousand Oaks Lake in Sparta, where she studied nursing at TN Tech. and worked in the healthcare field until she retired. Norma had a spirit to serve and only wanted to be useful. After the passing of her second husband in 1999, she moved back to Texas to be near some of her cousins. During that time, she became reacquainted with an old friend, Mr. Charles “Charlie” Garver of Arizona. They became very close. Charlie sold his place in Arizona and moved to Texas to be closer to Norma. They wed in 2015 and remained married until Charlie’s passing at the age of 103. Norma was then showing the first signs of dementia and she sold her place in Texas to move to Tennessee to be closer to her family. She remained in the care of her family for as long as possible before going to live at the Life Care Center.
Norma lived an amazing full life and had many wonderful experiences. She visited every state in the union included Alaska and Hawaii, plus several other countries. She loved to sing, play piano, sketch and paint, read books, and play rummy and dominoes with her friends and family. She had an amazing sense of humor and laughed often. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Garver; brother, Mike Haley of Maryland; and infant grandson, Dustin Siler. She is survived by her brother, Wilbur (Haley) Haley of Maryland; sister, Mary Mills of Georgia; and sister, Bernice Barker of Washington State.
She was loved and is survived be her children, Deborah (Buddy) Roach, Mark (Paulette) Denton, and Vicky (Jim) Lynch of Maryland; grandchildren, Kaydele (Donnie) Shropshire, Bradley (Tanya) Roach, Kylene (Brandon) Russell, Joni (Brandon) Hunt, Megan (Paul) Balough, Mark (Krystal) Denton, Kerri Lynch, James (Angie) Lynch, and Jonathan Lynch. She had 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by both family and friends.
