Mildred (Millie) Kane Pemberton, age 91, of Sevierville, TN passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 of natural causes. She was visiting her daughter Julie Jones in Gainesville, Georgia at the time of her passing.

Millie was born on August 29, 1932 in Knoxville Tennessee, to parents Arthur Kane and Lena Walker Kane of Dandridge Tennessee. She graduated from Maury High School in 1950 and attended Carson Newman College for two years, after which she left to join her husband Jack in Panama, where he was deployed with the Army. After years of motherhood she returned to school and earned a Bachelors degree in History and Library Science from the University of Tennessee in 1977. Millie loved driving the bookmobile throughout East Tennessee for the Nolichucky Regional Library System and later worked as the school librarian at Meadowview middle school in Morristown. She was well-respected by her fellow teachers and her students.

Millie was married to Jackson (Jack) O. Pemberton for 43 years until his death in 1994. Millie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her four children, Jay (Marcile), Beth, Julie (Duane, deceased) and Art (Wendi), nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was a kind and loving woman, who always put her family first.

In her free time, Millie enjoyed reading, watching sporting events, traveling and spending time with her family. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Dandridge and in her later years watched the online services of the First Baptist Church of Galax Virginia, where her son Art is a member of the choir and daughter-in-law Wendi is Minister of Music.

Millie will be remembered for her kind heart, her sense of humor, and her unconditional love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The service is private. Millie will be buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge next to her husband Jack. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Jack’s memory.  www.farrarfuneralhome.com
