Michael DeWayne Mathews

Michael DeWayne Mathews age 59 of Dandridge, passed away on February 14, 2021 at the James A. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City. A Navy veteran during the cold war of the 80’s on the USS Coral Sea. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Mathews, brother, Wilmer “Buddy” Mathews, and stepfather, Horace Underwood. Michael is survived by his wife of 30 years Chris Mathews, daughters, Kelsey Mathews McMahan (Jeffery), and Kylie Mathews, grandchildren, Hannah McMahan, Kayla McMahan, Willow McMahan and Eden McMahan, mother, Mildred Crabtree Underwood, sister, Wanda Mathews Birch (Johnny), stepmother, Nellie Louise “Sis” Mathews, brother, John Thomas Mathews (Lorrie), stepbrother, Christopher “Robbie” Underwood (Brenda) and many nieces, nephews and extended family. A Flag presentation and Taps ceremony will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Morristown VFW Post 5266, 2503 E. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN. A Celebration of his Life will follow the ceremony from 5-8 PM on Thursday at the VFW Post.
