MELVIN THOMAS HUMPHREY, age 67 of Dandridge, TN went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 23, 2005. He was born September 10, 1937, the son of the late Thomas and Ethel Humphrey and was raised in Knoxville, where he was a graduate of Farragut High School, Class of 1957. Melvin was a devoted husband and father and was active in the community, having coached Little Leagaue Football for 10 years; a 32nd degree mason and member of the Brazelton Lodge # 190 F & AM, and he enjoyed Tennessee Walking Horses and all the friends he made at the many horse shows he attented; and working on his farm. Melvin was a popular law enforcement officer of the Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Dept. and was the first officer to retire after 20 years of service. Preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Sophie Barger, Nola Shropshire, Ann Harbin, May Baker, Bonnie Ford, Frances Johnson, and Bill Humphrey. Survived by wife of 44 years, Nina Faye Morgan Humphrey; sons, Melvin Thomas Humphrey, Jr. and wife, Carol, Timothy (Rickie) Humphrey and wife, Libby, Rodney Humphrey and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Timothy and Maggie Humphrey; step granddaughters, Kelly Noe and Mandy Galloway; brother, Clyde Humphrey; four special nephews, Ray Humphrey, James Roberts, Johnny Harbin and David Humphrey and mano more nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 from the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Jeff Foster officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery with Masonic Services by the Brazelton Lodge. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
