MELTON D. CAUTHEN, LT. COL. RETIRED, age 75, of Jefferson City, TN passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his home. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He was a retired engineer from TVA and served as a command pilot for the 134th Air Refueling Group at McGhee Tyson, having retired as a Lt. Col. after 28 years of military service. He was an educator at Jefferson County High School as a Drafting Instructor for 3 years. Melton was active in youth sports in Jefferson County, serving as president of the Babe Ruth League for 12 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Y. L. and Jennie Cauthen and brother, William. He is survived by wife, Nancy; and sons, Edward (Darlene), Tommy (Penny), Michael and Chris (Amy); grandchildren, Joe, Brad, Drew, Kayla, Ashley, Brady, Briley, Cade Cauthen; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday evening, December 22, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Gene Wilder officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, December 23, 2008 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bass-Davidson Sunday School Class and present and past members of the Tennessee Air National Guard 134th Air Refueling Group.
