McMurry Walker

McMurry Walker was born August 31, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to the proud parents of Marsella (June) and L. B. Walker, who preceded him in death. He leaves his devoted wife of 20 years, Brenda Walker to treasure his memory. McMurry, fondly called MAC, also leaves three children, Carmen, Jerome and Stephanie; seven grandchildren, Jelon, Jacque, Janae, Jazmine, Cameryn, Ethan and Sharae; three great-grandchildren, Donte, Kaiden and Savonn; mother-in-law, Elnora Mattison; sister-in-law, Sandra and husband Ross Cunningham; sister-in-law, Janice and husband Ernest Johnson; brother-in-law, Charles and wife Gracie Mattison. Mac leaves his brother, Luther and wife Linda Walker; sister, Joycelin and husband Ronald Larrieu; sister, Betty Ann and husband Butler Maxwell; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Mac entered the world a big, beautiful, bouncing baby boy. Adoringly called ?Buddy? as a child, Mac possessed a charming spirit. Mac was baptized at St. Ambrose Church in Chicago, where he also attended grammar school and graduating from Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago in 1964. As a young athlete, Mac played football and basketball while in school, and later in life he was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching his games with a cold beer in the company of family and friends. Mac worked for twenty years as a journeyman painter for the Chicago Housing Authority before moving to Jefferson City, TN, where he worked as a local contractor supporting his family. As a man, Mac was a larger than life, captivating guy who won the hearts of all whom he encountered. In addition to Mac being a good-natured person, he immensely valued family, and he found his greatest role with his beloved wife, Brenda. Mac loved Brenda and her children. Big Mac was more of a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather than many men. Mac adored Brenda and her family, and they adored him. He was their ?pa-paw.? ?A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others? and everyone loved ?Big Mac.? There was no one nicer than Big Mac, a gentle giant with a gregarious spirit, and everyone knew him. If Big Mac was your friend, he was indeed your friend. You were always happy to see Big Mac. The sight of him always ignited your soul. Any anger or fury, pain or discomfort, were things Mac privately addressed. Never was he seen cross or violent. Big Mac was a pleasure-seeker, and he wanted others to enjoy life as he did. He loved the simple pleasures like picking water cresses from Mossy Creek. Mac loved the sanctity and beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains and often spent time there with his wife and family high in the heavens close to his God. Epitomizing the phrase, ?The good die young,? Mac lived large while he walked this planet. His love for others was as abundant as MAC the MAN. Mac?s quest for life?s pleasures, generous nature, and struggle to say ?no? were his only weaknesses. A king of kings with a heart of gold, Mac?s dedication to his family was boundless. Brenda, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren had and will forever have Mac?s big heart, soul and spirit. You will be greatly missed, Big Mac. Though difficult, all who you touched must welcome peace in knowing that we will enjoy your spirit again in the greater realm. Farewell, Big Mac. We will always love you. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Janice Johnson officiating. Graveside interment service will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. ARRANGEMENTS BY FARRAR FUNERAL HOME IN JEFFERSON CITY, TN 865-475-3892
