MAURICE JOHNSON HATCHER, age 85, died on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Jefferson City, TN. Born on March 5, 1932 in Marion, KY, he grew up on the Ohio River, his father the lockmaster. He served in the United States Air Force and graduated from Austin Peay State University. He played basketball on his high school and college teams. On November 10, 1961, he married the love of his life, Wylene Quarles, at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Talbott. His favorite quote about her was, “She’s the only woman for me!”. He was a faithful husband and provider. His favorite quote about their daughter, Lu Ann, was “She’s my #1 Daughter.” Her favorite quote to him was, “You’re my #1 Daddy!” He was a retired certified public accountant at Allen & Hatcher in Morristown, TN, and an active member of the Morristown Lions Club, serving on the Board of Directors for Volunteer Blind Industries. Standing 6’6”, he was a gentle giant, a man of few words with a dry sense of humor that took you pleasantly by surprise. He faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and Layleader while his wife, Wylene, played the piano and organ at George Street Methodist Church in Jefferson City and later at Panther Springs Methodist Church in Morristown. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dayton Hatcher and Zelma Lou Johnson Hatcher; his wife, Agnes Wylene Quarles Hatcher; and his brothers, William Dayton Hatcher, Jr., Dr. Charles Eugene Hatcher, and Lovell Hatcher. His is survived by his daughter, Lu Ann (Hatcher) Ballew; his step-granddaughter, Jasmine (Ballew) Broyles; his granddaughter, Bay Anna Ballew; and his grandson, Brett Maurice Ballew. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, TN with Pastor Robert Emmert and Deacon Gordon Lowery officiating. Graveside interment service will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
