Born in Lenoir City to Mel V. Walker and Bernace Moore Walker, she worked as a service representative for Southern Bell before and during WWII after attending Carson Newman College. Working as a pre-school teacher, mother, and housewife, she lived in various cities in the southeast, including Coral Gables, FL, and Atlanta. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Charles Hawkins, Sr.; her children, Charles Hawkins, Jr., with wife, Donna Andrews; and Patti Hawkins King with husband, Greg King; her brother, Joe Walker and his wife, Beth; grandchildren, Michael King and Cathy King Buckland with her husband, Matt; sisters-in-law, Maggie and Mary Ruth Walker, along with numerous cousins and other relatives. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Mt.
