MARY CATE JONES, age 82, of Strawberry Plains, TN passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Piney Baptist Church and had attended First Baptist Church of Knoxville for many years. She was retired from University of Tennessee with 37years service as an administrative assistant. A lifelong member of International Secretary Association, she was International Secretary of the Year in 1992. She served 39 years as a member of the Jefferson County Commission. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and an amazing cook. Preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Curtis Jones; parents, Earl Cate and wife Grace Grubaugh Cate, and Edith Reed Cate; sister, Earlene Faye Cook. Survived by sons, Tim Jones of Strawberry Plains, TN, Kenny Jones of Strawberry Plains, TN (Camille of Knoxville); daughter, Carol White (David) of Strawberry Plains, TN; grandchildren, Morgan Jones (Terrance) of Morristown, TN, Bryce Jones (Jordan) of Knoxville, MollyCate Jones of Strawberry Plains; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Kingston, Leighton and Harper; sister, Wanda Arnold (Ed) of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Reuben “Butch” Cook; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the nurses and CNA’s of Unit 4 and the entire staff of Jefferson County Nursing Home, and to the staff of 7 North of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Ward officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Piney Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Jefferson County Nursing Home, 914 Industrial Park Drive, Dandridge, TN 37725.
