Mary K. Haynes, age 87, of Jefferson City, TN passed away peacefully following a brief illness at Jefferson Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was a devoted member of Martha Davis Baptist Church, and also enjoyed visiting Young’s Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church frequently. Mary Kate was born April 30, 1926 to the late Samuel and Mary Ruth Spiva in Jefferson County, TN. She is preceded in death by her two sons, John (Sonny) Haynes and Charleston Haynes; sister, Pauline Lucas; and two brothers, Walter Spiva and Clarence Spiva. She leaves to cherish her memory two granddaughters, Teresa Stewart of Nashville, TN and Carla (Kevin) Happ of Rutledge, TN; four great-grandchildren, Eric (Becky) Black of Morristown, TN, LaShea (Charles) Cornelious of Palm Beach, FL, Jamesha (Howard) Morrison of Morristown, TN, and James Scales III of Morristown, TN; seven great-great-grandchildren, Molly, Jaiden, Bentley, Dieon, Julius, Elisha, Isaiah; brother, Dr. Ulyses Van (Libby) Spiva of Virginia Beach, VA; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sheets, Doris Cunningham, Mary Pitts; special cousin, Gail Jarnigan. Also, the family would like to thank the staff of Jefferson City Health and Rehab and the staff of Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Nathaniel Wilson and Rev. Janice Johnson officiating. Family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside interment service.
