Mary "Cookie" Hartsell

Mary Helen “Cookie” Hartsell, 77 years of age, passed at 11:11 AM on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at her home.

Cookie was born October 14, 1946 in White Pine to the late Haskell and Pearl Rines. She was the youngest of two children, her brother, Johnny, preceded her in death.

After surviving the tragic car accident that took the lives of her parents and brother, Cookie was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Hub and Kat Rines, and was raised with her first cousins, Rita Musick and Larry Rines, whom she considered siblings.

Cookie married the late Wallace Glenn Hartsell on August 18, 1966, and raised three daughters. She was known to be a professional mom and grand-mom who loved her family with lots of love, humor, and common-sense advice. Glenn preceded her in death by two years and ten days. During that time, Cookie enjoyed traveling with her in-laws, Ronny and Willie Hartsell, and nephew Ron Hartsell to such places as Savannah, GA and Williamsburg, VA-- during which time much ice cream was consumed.

Cookie also enjoyed taking care of her family who lived close by and visited almost daily. Cookie’s home was the gathering place. She is survived by her three daughters, Pennie and Harold Leach, Ann and Patrick Joyner, and Wally and Chuck Mantooth, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

There will be a Graveside Funeral Service at 1:00pm on Friday, January 19, 2024 in White Pine Cemetery.
