MARY DEANE ALLEN SHUGART passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was born June 7, 1918, the daughter of Claude and Naomi Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James A. Shugart; daughter, Claudine Shugart; and brother, Dr. E. Dale Allen. She is survived by her son, Jimmy A. Shugart; granddaughter, Jill (Glen) Herren; great-grandson, Jared Herren; sister-in-law, Alvara Allen; and special cousin, Linda Welch; a niece and two nephews. Mary was a graduate of Maryville College. She was the last surviving member of both her college class and her high school class. She taught school for many years in both Tennessee and Virginia, since her husband was a minister in the United Methodist Church and they served appointments in both states. After her retirement, she substituted for several years at Jefferson County High School. Mary was a member of Seahorn?s Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, church pianist as long as her eyesight permitted, and was active in the United Methodist Women. The family would like to express their appreciation to all the staff of Jefferson County Nursing Home for their loving care over the past year and a half. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2012 at Seahorn?s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. John Thompson officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine, TN (865) 674-2441
