OBITUARY:
MARTHA BILL EASLEY WEIERMAN, age 82 of Jefferson City, TN died early Saturday morning, February 12, 2005 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital from complications of multiple strokes and diabetes. She was born in Newbern, Tennessee, on April 26, 1922. She grew up on a farm there with her parents, Bryan and Lillie Easley and brother, John, now deceased. After graduating from Newbern High School in 1939, she attended Carson-Newman College, where she graduated in 1943. Her love for the college, Jefferson City and its people began during those years, never flagged, and brought her back permanently several years later. Following college, Martha Bill received a Master of Religious Education from the Carver School of Missions and Social Work at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. While in Louisville, she met her husband-to-be, Warren L. Weierman of Landsdale, Pennsylvania. They married June 18, 1946, at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. During their 45-year marriage they lived briefly in Pennsylvania, California, and Virginia, but called Jefferson City home for the majority of their years together. Martha Bill thoroughly enjoyed her roles as mother, faculty wife at Carson-Newman, and later, accountant. She worked for over 25 years for what is now Purkey, Carter, Compton, Swann & Carter in Morristown. Many of her lifelong friendships were made during her employment there. Martha Bill was known and loved for her indomitable spirit, her loyalty, her giving nature, and her optimistic ability to handle whatever life brought her way. Her passing leaves a great void in the lives of those who were close to her. She is survived by her daughters, Bryn Easley Roozen of Jefferson City, Shawn Somerfield of Sevierville, Tennessee; son-in-law, Dan Somerfield; grandchildren, Luke Austen(19) and Lillie Kate (16) Somerfield; and nieces, Gail Easley and Alice Easley, both of Florida. Memorial services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Family and friends will gather 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Westview Cemetery for an 11:00 inurnment service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry of First Baptist Church, 1610 Russell Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
