MARSHALL NEIL MANLEY, of Jefferson City, TN passed away at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital on December 7, 2008. He was born on October 2, 1918, the son of Reed Wilson and Effie Cate Manley. He and his beloved wife, Gladys Crawford Manley, were married for sixty-seven years. His sister, Mary Cate Manley, died in 1925, and his brother, Rolla, died in 1997. He graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Carson-Newman College. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Agriculture with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific, where he served as the only officer on board an L.C.T. He did 4-H work as an assistant agricultural extension agent in Roane County and then in Greene County. From 1949 to 1969, he traveled throughout the states of Georgia and Florida on behalf of American Breeders Service, a company (now known as ?ABS?) that was innovative in the cattle industry. From 1969 until his death he was a farmer on the land where he was born in New Market. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City and was active in community and agricultural activities. He enjoyed the company of his many friends and was a good storyteller. He is survived by his wife of New Market; daughter, Elizabeth Manley of Norris, TN; son, Hugh Manley and his wife, Sydney of Burke, VA; son, Robert and his wife, Linda of New Market, TN; grandchildren, Court Manley of Annapolis, MD, Ben Manley of Burke, VA, Shannon Barton and her husband, Leonard of Perry, UT, and Moanna Mower and her husband, Robert of Flower Mound, TX; as well as great-grandchildren, Brittney, Cassie, Marissa, Luke, Caleb, and Seth Barton, and Dylan, Gabrielle, Grant and Grace Mower. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Dr. Calvin Metcalf officiating. Interment to follow in Westview Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience anytime Wednesday and Thursday at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City.
