MABEL JO WHILLOCK ATKINS of Dandridge passed away at home on Sunday, October 30th at the age of 90 from pancreatic cancer. She was a faithful lifelong member of Piedmont Baptist Church and the Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class. Mabel Jo was retired from the Standard Knitting Mill where she worked for 46 ½ years. Preceded in death by her husband of over fifty-one years, Fernley J. Atkins; parents Andy and Alice Atchley Whillock; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Gus Lewis and nephew Rick Lewis. She is survived by brothers and their wives, L.M. and Carolyn Whillock, and Bill and Shirley Whillock. Shirley was like a sister to Mable Jo and she and Bill were always there for her and saw to it that she never wanted for anything. Also survived by her niece and husband, Lisa and Russ Flanary. Mabel Jo helped raise Lisa and she was more like a daughter than a niece. Also survived by great nephew and wife, Will and Morgan Ellis, great-great nephew Jack Ellis, a host of church family and friends including special neighbors, Charlotte McMahan and Charles and Mary Jane McGee and Tony Martin. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 7:00pm at Piedmont Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Neal officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. The graveside interment will take place at Jefferson Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 3, 2016 with Reverend Charlie Harkleroad officiating. It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Piedmont Baptist Church, Dandridge.
