LUTHER LAWSON, age 94, of Jefferson City, TN, prominent United Methodist minister in the Holston Conference who served in Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida, passed away on December 14, 2007. In 2004, at the age of 90 years, he was the oldest appointed minister in the Holston Conference, having served for 66 years. Preceded in death by parents, Samuel Jacob and Lula Klepper Lawson; son, Raymond Eldridge Lawson; wife, Mozelle Robbins Lawson; sisters, Mildridge Ruth Lawson, Gertrude Hazel Lawson, Tilda Jo Phillips, Maxie Wilson; brothers n law, Earl Donelson and George Jarvis; son-in-law, Bob Byrd. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Alice Ruble Lawson of the home; children, Glenda Byrd of Jefferson City, TN, Donald Wayne Lawson of Charleston, SC; Luther Rodney Lawson and wife, Nedra of Pounding Mill, VA, Melford Wesley Lawson and wife, Charlene of Kodak, TN, Vera Dawn Moore and husband, Tommy of Knoxville, TN, and Teresa Mae Lawson of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Gregory and Regina Byrd, Scott and Carla Byrd, Bradley Lawson, Lindsey Lawson, Shane and Jill Lawson, Jamie and Katrine Lawson, David and Holly Lawson; twelve great grandchildren, Brandon Byrd, Kendra Byrd, Colton Byrd, Jackson Byrd, Jessica Bridges, Austin Lawson, Justin Lawson, Dakota Lawson, Chaz Lawson, Aaron Lawson, Rachel Lawson and Isaac Lawson; sisters, Cleona Jarvis of Jefferson City, TN, Eva Donelson of Marion, VA, Jane Spivey and husband, Jack of Chattanooga, TN; brother-in-law, Marlin Wilson of Etowah, TN; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2007 from the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Reverend Rodney Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside interment service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Oak Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Kingsport, TN. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Gregory Byrd, Scott Byrd, Shane Lawson, Jamie Lawson, Davis Lawson, Bradley Lawson and Brandon Byrd.
