LUCILLE SMOTHERMAN LEA (LUCY LEA), passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2003 at the St. Mary?s Residential Hospice in Halls, Tennessee. Ms. Lea was born December 13, 1920 in Murfreesboro to Lillard and Odell Smotherman. She was preceded into mortality by her husband, Marvin Lea of Jefferson City. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Williams and her husband, James; sister and brother-in-law, Gerry and Guy James of Murfreesboro; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Carol Smotherman of Murfreesboro; granddaughter, Katie Beck and her husband, Jared Beck; and by a grandson, Kelton Williams. Mrs. Lea had a rich and rewarding life with loved ones and friends. Her father was a horseman and she had enjoyed riding and showing horses as a teenager in middle Tennessee. After marriage, early family life with Marvin was in the young and vibrant community of Norris, TN during the exciting days of dam construction. Then the family moved to Jefferson City for the remainder of Mr. Lea?s career with the TVA, and Lucy had her own career with the Selective Service. In Jefferson City she was active in civic affairs, and particularly the Chamber of Commerce. For the last ten years of her life she lived in Oak Ridge and for the last six years she resided at the Oak Ridge Retirement Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, having transferred from First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City. A life?s passion for Lucy was duplicate bridge and she was a Life Master. She greatly enjoyed the many friendships and the travel she experienced while playing. Last rites will consist of a graveside service at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2003 with Pastor Russell Weekley of the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be gifted to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley.
