LORAN A. WHALEY of Dandridge, TN passed away Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. He was the son of the late C.W. and Maudie Smelcer Whaley of Sevier Co. and was preceded in death by his brother, Frank J. Whaley. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Pat) Finchum Whaley; brother, Loy H. Whaley (Ronda) of Sevierville; sister-in-law, Maxine O. Whaley of Knoxville; nieces, Karen Whaley Patrick (Jason) of Sevierville, Patricia Whaley Walker (Mark) of Knoxville, Pamela Whaley Lee (Dr. Richard T.) of Knoxville; nephew, Jeffrey F. Whaley of Alabama; several great nephews and nieces.
Loran was a graduate of Sevier Co. High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and served as an MP in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea from March 1951 until the cease-fire in the summer of 1953. He was a lifetime member of the Dandridge V.F.W. Post #3380 and was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge. He retired as branch manager of the Jefferson Farmers Co-op in Dandridge after 37 years of employment with the company. There will be no formal visitation service, however friends may call at the family home, 904 Holtsinger Drive in Dandridge after 4:00pm on Monday and Tuesday and anytime at their convenience at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. Private graveside services with full military honors will be held at Shiloh Memorial Cemetery, 118 Henderson Road, Pigeon Forge, TN with the Rev. Dr. Robert F. Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge, P.O. Box 246, Dandridge, TN 37725.
